Many people think that the best snow photography is reserved for Hokkaido photo tours, but in the Tohoku Area of Japan, north on the main island, you can enjoy the experience of photographing abominable snowmen during a Winter Photo Tour in Yamagata and Miyagi Prefecture on Japan’s main island.

 

The Zao Mountain Range is a photographer’s paradise.  In every season, there is something beautiful to enjoy with camera in hand.  Depending on the effort you’d like to exert, the trekking and photography courses span 30 minutes to up to four hours, and every minute of your journey into the alpine will provide you with numerous photo ops so you can take in the scenery from a multitude of perspectives.

 

Autumn in Zao exposes the photographer to the brilliant reds, yellows, and oranges that the forests that will fill you with wonder as you witness the glorious changing of the seasons on the mountainside.  There is also a ropeway that will give you a bird’s eye perspective so you can survey the entirety of the natural beauty that Zao can offer you.

 

Winter time brings out the infamous juhyo, or snow monsters.  The white fir trees and a very specific condensation reaction freezes the water to the trees and creates wondrous sites for you and your camera.  Your Japan Dreamscapes photo tour leader will guide you through the menagerie of snow monsters as photograph to your heart’s delight.  During the day, your juhyo photos will have the crystal blue sky as the background, but at night, the snow monsters are lit and ready for you to experience them up close and personally!
