Japan Dreamscapes Photography Tours is now leading its first of many 2026 winter photo tours, with master photographer Blain Harasymiw at the helm for the first workshop. Alongside Blain, a renowned Japanese photographer joins the team, bringing local expertise and insight to these unforgettable expeditions.

We just experienced an incredible morning photographing the majestic Steller’s sea eagles, set against the dramatic backdrop of Hokkaido’s legendary pack ice. The weather here is thrillingly unpredictable—one moment you’re navigating blizzards and bomb cyclones, and the next, the skies clear to reveal eagles in all their wild glory. This ever-changing climate is both a challenge and a thrill, reminding us why you want the best local knowledge on your side.

With each group, we make at least two trips out—sometimes more—to maximize opportunities for capturing these rare raptors. The hunt for the perfect shot is always an adventure. The pack ice itself is as much a marvel as the eagles: during fierce winter storms, it doesn’t simply vanish, but sinks below the waves, only to resurface days later. This unique phenomenon keeps even the most seasoned captains on their toes. Boats can easily get stuck, and it takes careful research, deep connections with local experts, and constant monitoring of satellite images and coast guard updates to ensure the safety and success of each outing.

Every tour is designed to deliver excitement, adventure, and the chance to witness the wild heart of Japan’s winter. Join us for a journey you’ll never forget!
