As part of a Hokkaido Cherry Blossom Photo Tour, after Morioka in Iwate, another location that is part of a comprehensive Tohoku cherry blossom workshop itinerary is Aomori.  Being the northern most prefecture on the Japan’s main island of Honshu, the cherry blossoms reach mankai, or full bloom, later than in the Kanto Region.  And the most prominent varieties of cherry blossoms are Somei Yoshino (Prunus yedoensis), Shidarezakura (Weeping Cherry) (Prunus pendula), and Yaezakura (Double Layer Cherry) (Prunus subhirtella) among others, but if you have scouted the regions like JDS workshop leaders have, you can find even more while exploring on a Cherry blossom photo workshop tour.  Hirosaki park is one of the more famous locations in Aomori prefecture, and it has over 2,500 trees with many types of cherry blossoms, but there are several off the beaten path locations that will yield gallery worthy photos of Japan’s iconic sakura.  Aomori is also home to the longest uninterrupted path of cherry blossom trees in all of Japan, over 20 kilometers of sakura and more than 6,000 individual trees line the path.  To frame the perfect photo, the JDS workshop leaders are happy to give you advice and send you home with memory cards full of photos from your once in a lifetime cherry blossom photo workshop experience.
